Apple's order page may have let slip a feature that isn't out yet.
Apple released the HomePod mini 2 today, but left the full-sized HomePod untouched. The alt text on that speaker's product photo, still sitting at the bottom of Apple's order page, now describes a "multi-colored Siri AI glow on top" - a feature the current full-sized model doesn't have. Apple hasn't said whether that's a hint or a copy-paste error. Even the new HomePod mini 2 isn't getting Siri AI immediately; Apple says it arrives in a later software update, with no date attached, and it will need a paired iPhone or iPad running Apple Intelligence for anything involving personal context.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had already reported that Apple planned to update the full-sized HomePod "eventually," so this alt text lines up with existing reporting rather than breaking news on its own. It also raises a less convenient possibility: Siri AI on the bigger speaker could end up tied to new hardware rather than a software update for units already on shelves. Apple hasn't said which it will be.
Apple's smart speakers have trailed its phones and laptops on AI rollout for a while now, so a stray line of alt text being the best available clue says as much about that pace as it does about the product.
