Amazon dropped the price of its entry-level streaming stick from $39.99 to $15.99 on Sept. 28, a 60% cut and the lowest the device has ever sold for. The stick plugs into an HDMI port and pulls power from the TV itself via a USB-C cable, so there's no wall adapter to find room for. It ships with an Alexa Voice Remote that handles app search plus the TV's power and volume controls. The deal is live now, ahead of Amazon's October Prime Day event.
Cutting prices on its own hardware before Prime Day is a familiar Amazon move: sell the device cheap, count on subscriptions and shopping habits to make up the margin later. A $15.99 streaming stick is basically an impulse buy, and impulse buys are exactly what pre-Prime Day promotions are built to generate.
This isn't really a hardware story - it's a preview of how aggressive Amazon plans to get with its own devices once Prime Day actually starts.
