At the sale price it costs slightly less than the smaller Fire HD 8, which makes the comparison easy. The HD 10 has a 10.1-inch 1080p screen, better front-facing cameras for video calls, and up to 13 hours of battery life. A microSD slot accepts cards up to 1TB, and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, which newer iPads lack. The tablet will keep receiving security updates.\n\nIt also supports Alexa Plus, the upgraded AI assistant that Prime members can use for free. The reviewers who tested it found it useful for managing a smart home but got mixed results on other tasks.\n\nThe main catch is software. The Fire HD 10 runs Fire OS rather than Android, so Google's app store is missing. Sideloading Android apps is possible with relative ease, but the low-end hardware may struggle with demanding apps and games. The new Alexa Tablets, by contrast, ship with the Google Play Store.\n\nThat contrast is the real story behind the discount. Amazon's Fire tablets were long the cheap, good-enough option, and the replacement trades that low price for the app access Fire OS never had. For anyone who mostly streams, reads, and browses, $72.99 buys most of what matters. The open question is how many buyers will pay the Alexa Tablet premium once the cheaper Fire is gone.","[\"amazon\",\"tablets\",\"fire-hd\",\"alexa\"]","2026-10-20T19:00:00.000Z","2026-10-20T20:18:42.026Z","2026-10-20T20:18:42.233Z","published",null,[24,30,35],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"editor-r1","editor",1,"Fix three problems: (1) the $82-off versus $139.99 list-price conflict is left as a hedge ('treat the new low as the number that matters') with a meta reference to 'the deal writeup', so either state which figure is right and why or drop the '$82 off' claim; (2) the security-update claim is attributed to Amazon with an invented 'no end date given' when the source only says it 'will continue to get security updates'; (3) the speculation that Amazon 'sees the closed app catalog as a weakness' and ","resolved",{"id":31,"reviewer":32,"round":33,"reason":34,"status":29},"publisher-r2","publisher",2,"The body contains a leftover editing note (\"The $82 discount cited alongside the deal does not match those two prices, so $67 is the figure to use\") that refers to an unresolved discrepancy and should be removed or rewritten before publishing.",{"id":36,"reviewer":26,"round":37,"reason":38,"status":29},"editor-r3",3,"Remove the leftover sourcing artifacts: replace 'according to the listing coverage' and 'Our counterpart testing' with a plain attribution to The Verge, whose testing it was, and cut 'though no end date was given' (a note about what the source omits) and 'per Amazon's specs' (the source doesn't attribute the specs to Amazon).","consumer-tech",[41,42,43,44],"amazon","tablets","fire-hd","alexa",[46],{"name":47,"url":48},"The Verge","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.theverge.com\u002Fgadgets\u002F1014565\u002Famazon-fire-hd-10-tablet-deal-sale",0,{"sections":51},[52,57,62,67,72,77,81,86,91,96,101,106,111,116],{"name":53,"slug":54,"count":55,"latest_published_at":56},"AI","ai",7045,"2026-10-20T21:25:22.000Z",{"name":58,"slug":59,"count":60,"latest_published_at":61},"Security","security",1021,"2026-10-20T20:25:00.000Z",{"name":63,"slug":64,"count":65,"latest_published_at":66},"Policy","policy",553,"2026-10-21T00:20:00.000Z",{"name":68,"slug":69,"count":70,"latest_published_at":71},"Deals","deals",538,"2026-10-20T20:17:07.000Z",{"name":73,"slug":74,"count":75,"latest_published_at":76},"Hardware","hardware",272,"2026-10-20T22:38:24.000Z",{"name":78,"slug":39,"count":79,"latest_published_at":80},"Consumer Tech",257,"2026-10-20T22:30:00.000Z",{"name":82,"slug":83,"count":84,"latest_published_at":85},"Science","science",209,"2026-10-20T21:02:53.000Z",{"name":87,"slug":88,"count":89,"latest_published_at":90},"Startups","startups",137,"2026-10-20T22:24:15.000Z",{"name":92,"slug":93,"count":94,"latest_published_at":95},"Software","software",134,"2026-10-20T14:57:15.000Z",{"name":97,"slug":98,"count":99,"latest_published_at":100},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",119,"2026-10-20T13:00:00.000Z",{"name":102,"slug":103,"count":104,"latest_published_at":105},"General","general",91,"2026-10-20T23:04:19.000Z",{"name":107,"slug":108,"count":109,"latest_published_at":110},"Gaming","gaming",83,"2026-10-20T23:30:00.000Z",{"name":112,"slug":113,"count":114,"latest_published_at":115},"Reviews","reviews",38,"2026-10-20T12:00:00.000Z",{"name":117,"slug":118,"count":119,"latest_published_at":120},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
