Feather wants developers to build robots the way they build apps.
The startup is pitching a $30,000 platform aimed squarely at software developers rather than roboticists. Its framing borrows a familiar comparison: an open layer other companies and developers can build on top of, much like Android did for phones. Feather has not published a ship date or technical specifications. What's public so far is the price and the audience it's chasing.
Robotics hardware has traditionally been sold to specialists who already know servo motors and ROS. Feather's pitch treats a robot more like a coding platform than industrial equipment, which could widen who gets to build with robots if the company delivers on it.
That's the pitch every 'Android of X' startup makes before the hard part, actually shipping a product, begins.
