Agon just raised $30 million to build the simulator where Europe's killer drones learn their trade.
The London startup emerged from stealth this week with the seed round, one of the largest defense-tech raises in Europe so far this year. Agon isn't building missiles or autonomous drones itself. It's building the synthetic battlefield those systems train in - a simulated combat arena where AI-powered drones, missiles, and other uncrewed weapons can be tested and refined before they ever see a real conflict. The founders previously worked at Anduril, the US defense-tech company known for its own autonomous weapons systems.
Training data is the bottleneck for military AI in a way it isn't for chatbots. You can't run live-fire exercises often enough to teach a drone to dodge jamming or pick targets under fire, so companies are betting on simulation instead. Agon's pitch is that whoever controls the training ground shapes how an entire generation of autonomous weapons behaves - a quieter, less visible kind of power than building the weapons themselves.
It's the infrastructure play behind the infrastructure play, and in defense tech, that's usually where the real money ends up.
