EventCoT first compresses video into compact \"event tokens\" rather than processing every frame raw, which cuts down on the visual data the model has to handle. It then reasons within those events and pins timestamps by matching placeholder tokens against visual embeddings. On ActivityNet-RTL, a standard benchmark for this task, it hits state-of-the-art numbers while using substantially fewer visual tokens than prior approaches.\n\nMost video question-answering systems either answer questions or locate moments - doing both jointly is the gap EventCoT is trying to close. Fewer visual tokens also means cheaper inference, which matters if this moves from a research paper into production video-search or video-surveillance pipelines.
