Eufy's Essential 7-Piece Alarm System is $269.98 at Amazon, down from $399.99. Price trackers say that $130 discount is the lowest the kit has sold for.
The seven pieces are a HomeBase Mini hub with 64GB of built-in storage, a keypad, four entry sensors, and one motion sensor. The sensors run on batteries and need no wiring. Once the hub is plugged in, the free Eufy app walks you through setup. Open a protected door or window and the app sends an instant notification. The motion sensor watches a space such as a living room or hallway. The keypad lets a family member or house sitter arm and disarm the system at the door without the app.
The selling point is what is missing from the bill. There is no subscription, and the hub stores everything locally, so the $270 is the whole cost of ownership apart from replacement batteries. For a renter or a small-home owner, that makes the sale price easier to judge than a cheap kit with a monthly plan attached.
The catch is coverage. Four entry sensors and one motion sensor cover the front and back doors, a couple of ground-floor windows, and a main hallway, which suits an apartment or a smaller house. A larger home with several entrances will need more sensors, and each extra one costs money. The kit also includes no cameras. An alert tells you something opened, not what or who, and compatible cameras are a separate purchase.
So treat $270 as the entry price, not the finished system. Count your doors and ground-floor windows first, then decide whether you want video. If the answer is a few doors and no cameras, this is a good deal. If it is a full house with video, the total drifts well above the sticker.
