The funding, led by Prosus Ventures and Tomales Bay Capital, also saw participation from Think Investments, Valiant Fund and several angels, including PhonePe founder Sameer Nigam and Meta’s India‑Southeast Asia VP. The money will be used to improve the company’s AI assistant that automatically screens and answers phone calls, a service aimed at the roughly 20 spam calls most Indians receive each week.
If the product works as promised, it could shave minutes off daily phone use for millions and give telecom operators a ready‑made anti‑spam layer. For investors, it’s a bet on AI‑driven voice tech in a market where spam is a persistent annoyance.
The round puts Equal AI among a growing list of Indian AI startups chasing niche problems rather than broad‑scale hype.
