OpenAI is being sued 30 more times over its alleged role in the Tumbler Ridge shooting.
Law firm Edelson PC filed the new suits, expanding its legal campaign against the AI company. The complaints go further than earlier filings, adding claims that OpenAI aided and abetted the shooting rather than simply failing to prevent it. For the first time, the suits also name Chris Lehane, OpenAI's policy chief, as an individual defendant. The evidence tying OpenAI's products to the shooting has not been independently confirmed.
Aiding-and-abetting claims are a much higher legal bar than ordinary negligence, and naming an executive personally suggests Edelson wants this fight to feel personal, not just corporate. If even one of these 30 cases survives a motion to dismiss, it could shape how courts handle AI companies when their tools are linked to real-world violence.
That is a lot of lawsuits to file before anyone outside the courtroom has actually seen the evidence.
