Disney+ is picking up two of football's biggest draws this season: the Super Bowl and some Monday Night Football games.
Disney+ will stream the Super Bowl along with a run of Monday Night Football games, according to a report from Engadget. Those same broadcasts will also air on ABC and ESPN, so the games aren't exclusive to the app. Anyone with a cable package or an antenna can watch the same feed without opening Disney+ at all.
That's the real story here, not exclusivity but redundancy. Live sports have become the thing streaming services dangle to make a subscription feel essential, and simulcasting a broadcast network's existing rights onto an app is a cheap way to do that without actually buying anything new.
Don't expect Disney+ to market it that way, though. "Stream the Super Bowl" sounds like a feature. It's really just ABC's signal, routed through one more login screen.
