The company has not detailed how the check determines age, what happens if a user disputes their classification, or how the two tiers will function differently inside the app. This is a return of a feature that previously drew enough backlash to earn the "controversial" label attached to it. What Discord actually changed in response to that criticism, if anything, has not been disclosed.
