Cloudflare Hits 10 Million Developers, Up 35% in a Quarter

Cloudflare says developers on its platform rose from 7.4 million to over 10 million in a quarter, crediting AI agents, but has not defined the term.

Cloudflare says more than 10 million developers now build on its platform, up from 7.4 million a quarter earlier.

That is a gain of at least 2.6 million people in three months, or about 35%. The company announced the figure in a press release and tied the growth to AI agents, meaning software that carries out tasks on its own. Developers, the company said, are using AI to write code and ship more of it.

The number is Cloudflare's own, and the announcement leaves a basic question open: what counts as a developer? An account that deployed code in the past month, anyone who ever signed up, and a free-tier hobbyist could all land in the total. Cloudflare has not said which it means, or whether the 7.4 million figure was counted the same way. The answer decides whether this is a surge in real usage or a surge in sign-ups.

The AI explanation is plausible, and it cuts a particular way. If AI tools write the code, people who would never have called themselves programmers can now deploy something. Cloudflare, best known for speeding up and protecting websites, would count them as developers too. That widens the pool without necessarily deepening it.

The arithmetic is also worth holding at arm's length. Growth of 35% per quarter, repeated four times, would multiply a user base by about 3.3 in a year. Few platforms hold that pace, and Cloudflare has not claimed it will. Rivals in developer hosting, such as Vercel, Netlify and Amazon's AWS, are chasing the same AI-assisted builders. Whether the newcomers pay, and stay, is a figure Cloudflare has not yet offered.
