Chrome’s latest Canary build adds a toggle called “Fulfill Searchbox Queries in AI Mode.”
The feature intercepts text entered in the address bar and sends it straight to Chrome’s built‑in AI, skipping the normal search engine handoff. Google flagged it as an experimental option; it’s not yet in stable releases.
If the test sticks, users could get AI‑generated answers without waiting for a SERP, changing how quickly the browser surfaces context‑aware replies. It also nudges Chrome toward a tighter AI integration, potentially reducing reliance on third‑party search services.
For now it’s a sandbox tweak for early adopters—watch for performance quirks before it leaves the Canary lab.
