It still cannot tell you which of its calls are wrong.\n\nResearchers built CreateScore, a system that scores CVs against hiring criteria using a cheap local AI model by default, escalating to a larger model only when a hand-built Bayesian network decides the cheap model's answer looks shaky. They tested it on 200 synthetic Data Science resumes split into training and test sets, scored against five criteria. The cheap model alone resolved 77.7% of criterion decisions, cutting token use by 65.2% versus running the expensive model on everything. Exact score agreement with the expensive model rose from 32.8% to 42.6%, though at the 61-candidate test size that gain was not statistically significant.\n\nThe more telling result is what the uncertainty measure could not do. It could not predict which decisions the cheap model got wrong: disagreement rates were nearly identical for escalated and non-escalated decisions, and the measure's error-detection accuracy was no better than a coin flip.
