ChatGPT landed in third place, accounting for 14% of observed scraping activity, while Perplexity took fifth with 10%. TikTok topped the list with nearly one in five scrapes, and Google held second. Seven of the top ten sites are new entrants this year, and retail regulars like Walmart, eBay and Airbnb dropped out entirely. Decodo CEO Vaidotas Juknys frames it as a change in purpose: two years ago, companies scraped the web to see what people searched for; now they scrape AI platforms to see what people are being told.\n\nThat purpose shift matters more than the ranking itself. Businesses scraping ChatGPT and Perplexity are essentially doing SEO for answer engines - checking how an AI assistant ranks them against a competitor, how often it mentions their brand, and whether it cites their site at all.
