Andy Burnham's first big call as prime minister is whether to kill Palantir's NHS contract.
Palantir holds a £330 million contract to run NHS data systems. Burnham, now prime minister, must decide whether to keep or cancel it. Years earlier, as mayor of Greater Manchester, he blocked the company from operating there. Canceling the NHS deal now risks a rupture with Big Tech and with Washington.
This isn't a routine procurement review. Burnham built part of his political identity on keeping Palantir out of Manchester's data systems, and that record is now colliding with the machinery of national government, where an NHS-wide contract carries far more money and far more diplomatic weight than a regional pilot ever did.
Cutting the contract would prove he meant it the first time. Keeping it would prove how differently the math works from Downing Street.
