Bitdefender has launched a free VPN built specifically for AI agents, not humans.
The public beta, called VPN for AI Agents, spins up a disposable encrypted tunnel every time an agent starts a task, then kills it once the task ends. Each session exits through its own IP address, so no cookies or session data carry over between tasks. It runs on a Model Context Protocol server and works automatically with Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, and OpenCode once installed, with no manual setup required. For now it only supports macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon chips; Intel Macs are excluded.
The pitch is straightforward: agents now browse and transact using a person's credentials and home IP address, collapsing the identity boundary between user and bot. That matters given Pew Research found 71% of US adults expect wider AI adoption to make their data less secure. Bitdefender is treating each agent like a separate contractor that needs its own network identity, rather than one that simply inherits the user's existing protections.
It's a sensible first move, and being first to ship this kind of tool for agents specifically counts for something, even if per-task tunneling itself is not a new idea. The beta is free and confirmed to run only on Apple silicon Macs at launch, with support for other operating systems planned to follow.
