Apple's tabletop and wall-mounted smart displays could ship within weeks, not months.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman now says Apple's long-rumored smart home display could ship as soon as October, tighter than the launch window he described in August, when he said the device remained on track for before the end of 2026. The hardware comes in two forms built around the same compact, square screen: a countertop version with a stand, and a wall-mounted version without one. Apple is reportedly sizing the display smaller than most Amazon Echo Show screens and running it on Siri AI, with visual design borrowed from iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. The interface will include a home screen, widgets, and selectable clock faces so information stays visible when the display is idle.
This isn't just another smart speaker with a screen bolted on - it's Apple finally building a fixed household hub to go alongside the iPhone, tying together smart home controls, intercom calls, and the Siri AI features debuting in iOS 27. That positions it as a direct answer to Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub, years after both established the category. The catch: Apple reportedly still wants an iPhone nearby for setup and some connected features, so this looks less like an independent device and more like a satellite screen for people already inside Apple's ecosystem.
Apple has been slow to this format before - HomePod arrived years after Amazon's and Google's smart speakers - so a fast follow this time would be the more notable story.
