Gurman says Apple's device remains on schedule for next year. Unlike a typical security camera, it won't record video. Instead, it uses AI to figure out which room someone is in and analyze the home environment.\n\nThis clears up a real point of confusion: Apple is running two home hardware tracks on two different timelines, not one bundled release. The LG-made doorbell, lock, thermostat, and cameras are still at least a few months out. Apple's own privacy-focused camera and sensor, though, lines up with the 2027 home security system and service Bloomberg reported in September. It's the same device on the same timeline, not a separate one.\n\nSkipping video recording for AI-based room detection is a very Apple move: less data to leak, less reason to worry about a camera feed getting hacked or subpoenaed.","[\"apple\",\"smart-home\",\"security-camera\",\"privacy\"]","2026-10-07T10:35:26.000Z","2026-10-08T07:42:12.191Z","2026-10-08T07:42:14.917Z","published",null,[24],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"editor-r1","editor",1,"Fix the timeline: the draft states the in-house device is included in the 2027 system Bloomberg reported in September, but the closing analysis then treats 'next year' (2027) and 'the 2027 system' as two different schedules to support its hedging thesis — reconcile which device ships when, and only assert the device-is-part-of-the-2027-system link if the source actually supports it.","resolved","hardware",[32,33,34,35],"apple","smart-home","security-camera","privacy",[37],{"name":38,"url":39},"MacRumors","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.macrumors.com\u002F2026\u002F10\u002F07\u002Fapple-home-security-camera-still-coming-next-year\u002F",0,{"sections":42},[43,48,53,58,63,67,72,77,82,87,92,97,102,107],{"name":44,"slug":45,"count":46,"latest_published_at":47},"AI","ai",6525,"2026-10-08T14:28:03.000Z",{"name":49,"slug":50,"count":51,"latest_published_at":52},"Security","security",919,"2026-10-08T14:20:00.000Z",{"name":54,"slug":55,"count":56,"latest_published_at":57},"Policy","policy",476,"2026-10-08T15:24:40.000Z",{"name":59,"slug":60,"count":61,"latest_published_at":62},"Deals","deals",467,"2026-10-08T15:01:29.000Z",{"name":64,"slug":30,"count":65,"latest_published_at":66},"Hardware",225,"2026-10-08T13:10:18.000Z",{"name":68,"slug":69,"count":70,"latest_published_at":71},"Science","science",187,"2026-10-07T04:00:00.000Z",{"name":73,"slug":74,"count":75,"latest_published_at":76},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",178,"2026-10-08T14:16:37.000Z",{"name":78,"slug":79,"count":80,"latest_published_at":81},"Startups","startups",115,"2026-10-08T14:16:56.000Z",{"name":83,"slug":84,"count":85,"latest_published_at":86},"Software","software",113,"2026-10-07T18:10:00.000Z",{"name":88,"slug":89,"count":90,"latest_published_at":91},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",105,"2026-10-07T16:59:11.000Z",{"name":93,"slug":94,"count":95,"latest_published_at":96},"General","general",62,"2026-10-08T14:00:00.000Z",{"name":98,"slug":99,"count":100,"latest_published_at":101},"Gaming","gaming",57,"2026-10-08T15:18:41.000Z",{"name":103,"slug":104,"count":105,"latest_published_at":106},"Reviews","reviews",34,"2026-10-08T14:00:22.000Z",{"name":108,"slug":109,"count":110,"latest_published_at":111},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
