Apple's own home security camera is still on track for next year, and it has nothing to do with LG.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman clarified on X that the smart home accessories co-developed with LG are separate from Apple's in-house security camera and sensor. Gurman says Apple's device remains on schedule for next year. Unlike a typical security camera, it won't record video. Instead, it uses AI to figure out which room someone is in and analyze the home environment.
This clears up a real point of confusion: Apple is running two home hardware tracks on two different timelines, not one bundled release. The LG-made doorbell, lock, thermostat, and cameras are still at least a few months out. Apple's own privacy-focused camera and sensor, though, lines up with the 2027 home security system and service Bloomberg reported in September. It's the same device on the same timeline, not a separate one.
Skipping video recording for AI-based room detection is a very Apple move: less data to leak, less reason to worry about a camera feed getting hacked or subpoenaed.
