The device is rumored to pack a newer chip that enables Siri's AI features, though only with a nearby iPhone doing the heavy lifting. It should also bring better sound, Apple's N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7, a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, and new pink and green color options. The design itself isn't changing, and the current HomePod mini already costs $129, up from its original $99 price.\n\nThe original HomePod mini launched on this exact date back in 2020 and has run on 2019-era Apple Watch silicon ever since, so this looks less like an iteration and more like an overdue replacement. Leaning on a connected iPhone for Siri's AI processing, rather than handling it on the speaker itself, suggests Apple is managing chip and battery costs rather than declaring the smart speaker problem solved.\n\nA six-year wait for a budget speaker to catch up with the rest of Apple's lineup says more about where smart speakers rank in Apple's priorities than any spec bump does.","[\"apple\",\"homepod mini\",\"siri ai\",\"smart speakers\"]","2026-10-10T13:55:00.000Z","2026-10-10T17:01:22.779Z","2026-10-10T17:01:26.530Z","published",null,[24],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"editor-r1","editor",1,"The claim that Alexa and Google Nest have run cloud-based generative AI natively 'for well over a year' is an added comparative claim not supported by the source material — either cite a source for it or remove the specific timeframe.","resolved","consumer-tech",[32,33,34,35],"apple","homepod mini","siri ai","smart speakers",[37],{"name":38,"url":39},"MacRumors","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.macrumors.com\u002F2026\u002F10\u002F10\u002Fapple-to-announce-new-homepod-mini-next-week\u002F",0,{"sections":42},[43,48,53,58,63,68,73,76,81,86,91,96,101,106],{"name":44,"slug":45,"count":46,"latest_published_at":47},"AI","ai",6855,"2026-10-10T16:25:45.000Z",{"name":49,"slug":50,"count":51,"latest_published_at":52},"Security","security",944,"2026-10-10T14:46:16.000Z",{"name":54,"slug":55,"count":56,"latest_published_at":57},"Policy","policy",494,"2026-10-10T15:14:35.000Z",{"name":59,"slug":60,"count":61,"latest_published_at":62},"Deals","deals",484,"2026-10-09T12:30:00.000Z",{"name":64,"slug":65,"count":66,"latest_published_at":67},"Hardware","hardware",233,"2026-10-09T16:07:54.000Z",{"name":69,"slug":70,"count":71,"latest_published_at":72},"Science","science",195,"2026-10-09T11:00:57.000Z",{"name":74,"slug":30,"count":75,"latest_published_at":18},"Consumer Tech",186,{"name":77,"slug":78,"count":79,"latest_published_at":80},"Startups","startups",120,"2026-10-09T17:02:31.000Z",{"name":82,"slug":83,"count":84,"latest_published_at":85},"Software","software",114,"2026-10-08T17:57:01.000Z",{"name":87,"slug":88,"count":89,"latest_published_at":90},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",110,"2026-10-09T13:03:48.000Z",{"name":92,"slug":93,"count":94,"latest_published_at":95},"General","general",69,"2026-10-09T19:10:07.000Z",{"name":97,"slug":98,"count":99,"latest_published_at":100},"Gaming","gaming",59,"2026-10-09T11:43:43.000Z",{"name":102,"slug":103,"count":104,"latest_published_at":105},"Reviews","reviews",34,"2026-10-08T14:00:22.000Z",{"name":107,"slug":108,"count":109,"latest_published_at":110},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
