The speaker adds a sound glow effect that syncs its LED ring to a song's album art, can act as the default speaker for a Mac, and lets up to four units pair with the new Apple TV 4K for surround sound. It ships in pink, green, blue, white, and black, with preorders opening today. At $149, it costs $50 more than the original HomePod mini's $99 price, which Apple is discontinuing.\n\nThat's the real story here: Apple is asking buyers to pay a premium today for hardware whose headline feature, on-device Siri AI, arrives on a timeline nobody's named. It's the same playbook Apple and plenty of rivals have leaned on this year: ship the chip, promise the software update, and let the surround-sound party trick and new paint colors carry the launch in the meantime.\n\nA $50 price increase for AI you can't use yet is a bet that customers will wait for Siri to catch up to the silicon.","[\"apple\",\"homepod-mini-2\",\"siri\",\"smart-speakers\"]","2026-10-13T13:00:00.000Z","2026-10-13T14:11:56.596Z","2026-10-13T14:12:01.931Z","published",null,[24,30],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"editor-r1","editor",1,"Remove or source the unsupported claim that 'Amazon and Google have mostly stopped investing in this category' — it's not in the source material and reads as an unverified assertion rather than analysis grounded in cited facts.","resolved",{"id":31,"reviewer":32,"round":33,"reason":34,"status":29},"publisher-r2","publisher",2,"The body claims the $149 price is '$20 more than its predecessor,' but the original HomePod mini was $99, a $50 difference, so the stated price delta is internally inconsistent.","consumer-tech",[37,38,39,40],"apple","homepod-mini-2","siri","smart-speakers",[42,45],{"name":43,"url":44},"The Verge","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.theverge.com\u002Ftech\u002F1009672\u002Fhomepod-mini-2-announced-apple-siri-ai",{"name":46,"url":47},"Mashable","https:\u002F\u002Fmashable.com\u002Ftech\u002Fapple-homepod-mini-2-smart-speaker-announced",0,{"sections":50},[51,56,61,66,71,76,80,85,90,95,100,105,110,115],{"name":52,"slug":53,"count":54,"latest_published_at":55},"AI","ai",6983,"2026-10-13T12:47:41.000Z",{"name":57,"slug":58,"count":59,"latest_published_at":60},"Security","security",966,"2026-10-13T15:10:00.000Z",{"name":62,"slug":63,"count":64,"latest_published_at":65},"Policy","policy",501,"2026-10-13T12:15:53.000Z",{"name":67,"slug":68,"count":69,"latest_published_at":70},"Deals","deals",498,"2026-10-13T14:59:12.000Z",{"name":72,"slug":73,"count":74,"latest_published_at":75},"Hardware","hardware",246,"2026-10-13T14:21:55.000Z",{"name":77,"slug":35,"count":78,"latest_published_at":79},"Consumer Tech",205,"2026-10-13T15:24:17.000Z",{"name":81,"slug":82,"count":83,"latest_published_at":84},"Science","science",199,"2026-10-13T12:01:37.000Z",{"name":86,"slug":87,"count":88,"latest_published_at":89},"Startups","startups",124,"2026-10-13T14:25:48.000Z",{"name":91,"slug":92,"count":93,"latest_published_at":94},"Software","software",116,"2026-10-12T19:00:00.000Z",{"name":96,"slug":97,"count":98,"latest_published_at":99},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",115,"2026-10-13T10:27:00.000Z",{"name":101,"slug":102,"count":103,"latest_published_at":104},"General","general",73,"2026-10-13T13:11:33.000Z",{"name":106,"slug":107,"count":108,"latest_published_at":109},"Gaming","gaming",63,"2026-10-12T20:59:50.000Z",{"name":111,"slug":112,"count":113,"latest_published_at":114},"Reviews","reviews",35,"2026-10-12T14:00:00.000Z",{"name":116,"slug":117,"count":118,"latest_published_at":119},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
