Most other stores get a smaller allotment: about 20 demo units each. Three especially busy locations, Chicago's Michigan Avenue, LA's The Grove, and Manhattan's Upper West Side, will have a larger batch of 30 to 40 units. New MagSafe stands will display an open Duo next to two regular iPhones, and in-store \"Presto\" machines will configure devices without unboxing them, adding each buyer's name to the first-startup greeting in English or Spanish. Pre-orders open October 16, sales start October 23, and the 256GB model starts at $1,999.\n\nWhat's notable is how close this timeline came to slipping. Two months ago, Gurman reported, Apple feared production constraints might push sales into November. The company has since built up just enough inventory to launch on schedule, though supply remains tight everywhere. The elaborate showcase tables are partly compensating for that: most walk-in customers will see the phone up close well before they can actually buy one.\n\nIt's the same constrained-launch pattern Apple used for the first Apple Watch and recent Vision Pro runs, except this time the device costs $1,999, not exactly an impulse buy that needs artificial scarcity to feel exclusive.","[\"apple\",\"iphone duo\",\"foldable phones\",\"retail launches\"]","2026-10-11T15:44:17.000Z","2026-10-11T16:21:14.579Z","2026-10-11T16:21:20.164Z","published",null,[24],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"publisher-r1","publisher",1,"The dek and body claim most stores get only a 'few dozen' or 'roughly 20' demo units, but then state non-flagship busy locations get 30-40 units, which is an internal inconsistency alongside the unexplained jump from Gurman's two-months-ago November concern directly into launch logistics without clarifying how that was resolved.","resolved","consumer-tech",[32,33,34,35],"apple","iphone duo","foldable phones","retail launches",[37],{"name":38,"url":39},"MacRumors","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.macrumors.com\u002F2026\u002F10\u002F11\u002Fiphone-duo-retail-showcase\u002F",0,{"sections":42},[43,48,53,58,63,68,73,76,81,86,91,96,101,106],{"name":44,"slug":45,"count":46,"latest_published_at":47},"AI","ai",6857,"2026-10-10T22:10:17.000Z",{"name":49,"slug":50,"count":51,"latest_published_at":52},"Security","security",945,"2026-10-11T13:15:09.000Z",{"name":54,"slug":55,"count":56,"latest_published_at":57},"Policy","policy",495,"2026-10-11T16:47:33.000Z",{"name":59,"slug":60,"count":61,"latest_published_at":62},"Deals","deals",484,"2026-10-09T12:30:00.000Z",{"name":64,"slug":65,"count":66,"latest_published_at":67},"Hardware","hardware",233,"2026-10-09T16:07:54.000Z",{"name":69,"slug":70,"count":71,"latest_published_at":72},"Science","science",196,"2026-10-11T15:34:40.000Z",{"name":74,"slug":30,"count":75,"latest_published_at":18},"Consumer Tech",188,{"name":77,"slug":78,"count":79,"latest_published_at":80},"Startups","startups",120,"2026-10-09T17:02:31.000Z",{"name":82,"slug":83,"count":84,"latest_published_at":85},"Software","software",115,"2026-10-11T07:34:45.000Z",{"name":87,"slug":88,"count":89,"latest_published_at":90},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",110,"2026-10-09T13:03:48.000Z",{"name":92,"slug":93,"count":94,"latest_published_at":95},"General","general",69,"2026-10-09T19:10:07.000Z",{"name":97,"slug":98,"count":99,"latest_published_at":100},"Gaming","gaming",59,"2026-10-09T11:43:43.000Z",{"name":102,"slug":103,"count":104,"latest_published_at":105},"Reviews","reviews",34,"2026-10-08T14:00:22.000Z",{"name":107,"slug":108,"count":109,"latest_published_at":110},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
