He expects a new iMac imminently and a MacBook Air refresh in early 2027. He gave no time frame for when either machine moves to OLED, a display type where each pixel produces its own light, which allows deeper blacks than an LCD with a backlight.\n\nThe useful detail is what the report leaves out. Testing is a stage, not a schedule, and Gurman attached no year to either switch. Anyone hoping the coming iMac or the early-2027 MacBook Air will bring OLED is, by his account, going to be disappointed.\n\nApple knows the technology well. It has used OLED in iPhones since 2017 and in the iPad Pro since 2024. Our read, and it is only that, is that the Mac's larger screens and different cost structure make the move a separate decision from those earlier ones. Gurman's newsletter does not say what is holding the Mac back, so that part is inference.\n\nThe practical question for buyers is whether an LCD refresh now means a second redesign later. The source offers no answer, and Apple has said nothing publicly about either display plan.","[\"apple\",\"oled\",\"macbook-air\",\"imac\"]","2026-10-26T03:41:01.000Z","2026-10-26T04:10:34.860Z","2026-10-26T04:10:37.176Z","published",null,[24],{"id":25,"reviewer":26,"round":27,"reason":28,"status":29},"editor-r1","editor",1,"Remove the unsupported detail that the Power On newsletter was 'dated October 25' (the source gives no date, so say 'latest' or verify it), and cut or clearly label as opinion the unsourced claim that testing is 'cheap and non-binding', keeping the piece grounded in what Gurman actually reported.","resolved","consumer-tech",[32,33,34,35],"apple","oled","macbook-air","imac",[37],{"name":38,"url":39},"MacRumors","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.macrumors.com\u002F2026\u002F10\u002F25\u002Foled-macbook-air-and-imac-in-testing\u002F",0,{"sections":42},[43,48,53,58,63,66,71,76,81,86,91,96,101,106],{"name":44,"slug":45,"count":46,"latest_published_at":47},"AI","ai",7083,"2026-10-25T15:25:40.000Z",{"name":49,"slug":50,"count":51,"latest_published_at":52},"Security","security",1067,"2026-10-25T22:10:00.000Z",{"name":54,"slug":55,"count":56,"latest_published_at":57},"Policy","policy",586,"2026-10-25T11:44:53.000Z",{"name":59,"slug":60,"count":61,"latest_published_at":62},"Deals","deals",572,"2026-10-25T14:31:28.000Z",{"name":64,"slug":30,"count":65,"latest_published_at":18},"Consumer Tech",302,{"name":67,"slug":68,"count":69,"latest_published_at":70},"Hardware","hardware",294,"2026-10-23T20:00:00.000Z",{"name":72,"slug":73,"count":74,"latest_published_at":75},"Science","science",218,"2026-10-23T22:48:25.000Z",{"name":77,"slug":78,"count":79,"latest_published_at":80},"Startups","startups",148,"2026-10-23T16:26:29.000Z",{"name":82,"slug":83,"count":84,"latest_published_at":85},"Software","software",144,"2026-10-25T04:58:09.000Z",{"name":87,"slug":88,"count":89,"latest_published_at":90},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",122,"2026-10-21T16:00:00.000Z",{"name":92,"slug":93,"count":94,"latest_published_at":95},"General","general",102,"2026-10-24T15:34:10.000Z",{"name":97,"slug":98,"count":99,"latest_published_at":100},"Gaming","gaming",88,"2026-10-22T22:25:33.000Z",{"name":102,"slug":103,"count":104,"latest_published_at":105},"Reviews","reviews",38,"2026-10-20T12:00:00.000Z",{"name":107,"slug":108,"count":109,"latest_published_at":110},"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
