Apple has halted plans to roll out its latest Siri version in the European Union.
The European Commission said Apple’s request for an exemption from new AI transparency rules was denied. Without the exemption, the updated voice assistant would not meet the EU’s requirements for risk assessments and user disclosures. Apple therefore chose not to launch the service in the bloc.
The move shows how EU AI rules are beginning to shape product decisions for major tech firms. Companies can no longer rely on shortcuts; compliance now dictates whether a feature reaches the market.
For now, European users will keep the older Siri experience, while Apple focuses on compliant versions elsewhere.
