Apple Schedules October 13 Event Focused on Home Devices

Apple's cryptic teaser points to a new smart display, refreshed HomePod and Apple TV, and overdue updates to product lines last touched years ago.

Apple is holding another event this month, and this time it's about the smart home.

Apple marketing exec Greg Joswiak posted a teaser video on X Thursday announcing an October 13 event, built around a rainbow Apple logo and the tagline "Welcome home." The branding points squarely at Apple's home product line, which has gone years without a refresh. Expected unveilings include a rumored smart display known unofficially as HomePad, a second-generation HomePod mini, and a new Apple TV 4K. The current HomePod has not been updated since 2023, and Apple TV hardware last got a refresh in 2022.

This is Apple's second major event in as many months, following last month's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo launch, which suggests the company is spreading announcements across more, smaller events rather than saving everything for one fall keynote. A display-equipped HomePad would also be Apple's most direct answer yet to Amazon's Echo Show and Google's Nest Hub, categories Apple has mostly sat out for years despite building the pieces, Siri included, to compete in them.

The retro rainbow logo in the teaser is either a nostalgic flourish or a hint that something old-school is making a comeback. Apple isn't saying, and we will know Tuesday.
