Apple may finally put a touchscreen on a MacBook - and reportedly plans to say so this month.
Engadget reports, citing unnamed sources, that Apple is preparing to launch a touchscreen MacBook alongside a new iPad Mini before the end of October. The report does not detail pricing, specs, or which MacBook model would get the touchscreen treatment. Apple has not commented, and the claim currently rests on that single source.
If true, this would mark a real reversal. Apple executives have argued for over a decade that touchscreens don't belong on laptops, famously mocking the idea at past product events. A touchscreen MacBook would also put Apple in territory Microsoft and its Windows partners have occupied for years with convertible and touch-enabled laptops, without obvious signs that feature drove mass adoption there.
Treat the timeline as a rumor until Apple sends an invite. Engadget's own sourcing is thin here, and Apple's release calendar has a habit of slipping past the month rumors predict.
