Apple Puts the M6 Chip in a New iMac

Apple's announcement names the chip and promises more speed and AI features, but it gives no specs, price, or ship date.

Apple has announced a new iMac built around the M6, the latest in the processors the company designs in-house for its Macs.

The announcement itself runs a single sentence. Apple said the new iMac features "the superfast M6" and delivers "even more performance and powerful AI capabilities." Both descriptions are the company's own marketing. Neither comes with a benchmark, a comparison to the previous chip, or an explanation of what the AI capabilities actually are.

The usual practical details are also missing: price, display specs, memory and storage options, colors, and the date the machine goes on sale. For now the firm facts are the product, the chip name, and Apple's claim that the machine is faster and better at AI work.

That makes the M6 the whole story at this stage. The number to look for when Apple publishes full specs is how much faster the new iMac is than the model it replaces, and under what conditions Apple measured it.
