Apple has finally explained what's in tvOS 27, nearly two weeks after everyone running it already found out for themselves.
tvOS 27 shipped on Monday, September 14, but the Apple TV doesn't show release notes in its Settings app. Apple instead relies on a support document that it updates whenever it gets around to it, and this time that took nearly two weeks. The document confirms Hi-Res Lossless audio and AutoMix, a DJ-style feature that beatmatches and time-stretches songs into each other, for Apple Music. It also lists a redesigned Podcasts app with video support, faster AirPlay connections, transcribed audio for content without captions, per-app blocking, and Dynamic Text sizing in Accessibility settings. The update runs on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and newer.
None of this is secret. Outlets covering Apple TV had already reported most of these features before Apple's own notes existed. What the delay really shows is how little attention Apple gives to explaining changes on a platform it doesn't treat as a flagship. iOS and macOS get same-day changelogs; Apple TV gets a webpage on Apple's schedule, not the user's.
It's a minor gripe about a minor platform, but minor platforms are exactly where these habits show what a company actually prioritizes.
