Apple may have already picked a name for its upcoming smart home hub, and it's not HomePod.
Trademark filings show a shell company called Home Services LLC registered the "HomeView" name in the U.S. and several other countries last year. Around the same time, a separate shell company, Home Operations Suite LLC, filed for "homeOS." Both entities are reportedly linked to Apple, though the company has not confirmed either filing. Apple is expected to show off a new smart home hub at an October 13 event billed as "Welcome home."
Apple has a history of filing decoy trademarks - it registered "xrOS" before settling on visionOS for the Vision Pro - so HomeView and homeOS are plausible, not guaranteed. Still, the timing lines up too neatly to ignore. A dedicated homeOS would also mark Apple's first new operating system platform since visionOS, a sign the home hub is meant to be a standalone product line rather than an iPad side project.
Call it HomeView, HomePad, or something cooked up by marketing next Tuesday - Apple's trademark lawyers clearly got there first.
