Apple's not-yet-shipped HomeView smart display is already $9 cheaper at Amazon.
Apple announced the HomeView on Tuesday: its first smart home display, due out November 13th at $299. Amazon is already selling it for $289.99 in both gray and the "starlight" white colorway. Apple's own store and Best Buy are still charging full price. The device has a seven-inch touchscreen that recognizes up to six household members, a 12-megapixel camera for FaceTime calls, and support for the Matter and Thread smart home standards, plus an AI-powered Siri that can pull context from your messages, calendar, and email.
Discounts on unreleased Apple hardware almost never happen - the company tightly controls pricing before launch day, which is exactly why a $9 cut is notable even though it is tiny. It reads less like a sign that HomeView is a hard sell and more like Amazon jockeying for early orders on a device Apple has not even shipped.
A $9 price cut will not move anyone's buying decision. But on a first-generation Apple product, even a token discount is a departure from the script.
