Apple's new HomeView smart home hub comes in four colors - unless you're hanging it on a wall.
The tabletop HomeView ships in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray, each with a matching USB-C cable. It's built from anodized aluminum, with a 7-inch Liquid Retina display mounted on a domed speaker base. A stainless steel hinge lets the screen tilt for a countertop, nightstand, or side table. The wall-mounted version uses the same 7-inch display and attaches via mounts from Schneider Home, but comes only in silver and space gray.
This is a small detail, but it's a familiar one. Apple has trimmed color options on fixed-installation hardware before, treating wall mounts and other built-in configurations as a more utilitarian tier than the version people handle and show off every day. The tabletop HomeView is the one sitting on your counter where you'll notice the finish. The wall unit disappears into the house.
Still, if you're the type who picked rose pink for your countertop gadget, don't expect to match it on the wall. That's a plaster-and-paint problem Apple apparently decided wasn't worth solving.
