Amazon's October Prime Day sale is officially live today, and some of its best deals are on Apple gear.
Apple doesn't usually discount its own products, but retailers do, and this week's event cuts real money off MacBooks, iPads, AirPods, and Apple Watches. The 13-inch M5 MacBook Air is $200 off at $1,099 on Amazon, the 15-inch model is down $100 to $1,399 (its best price since August), and Best Buy has the 14-inch M5 Max MacBook Pro at $3,499, a $600 cut. AirPods Max fall to $429, AirPods Pro 3 drop to $179, and AirPods 4 hit $79, while the base iPad is $399, the iPad mini is $499, and the 11-inch M5 iPad Pro is $1,139. The Apple Watch SE 3 starts at $199, and last year's Apple Watch Ultra 3 is $200 off now that the Ultra 4 has taken its place.
The pattern here is predictable but still useful: Apple almost never cuts its own prices, so Prime Day and matching retailer sales are the rare windows where that changes. The Ultra 3 discount is the clearest tell - it's not generosity, it's inventory clearance now that a newer model exists, and most "up to X% off" promotions follow the same logic once you check which chip generation is actually on sale.
None of this makes Apple hardware cheap - it just makes it less expensive than last week, which during Prime Day season is about as good as it gets.
