Apple and Meta worked together so that Meta's new open-weight model, Muse Spark Open, runs on Apple's Mac Studio desktops.
The companies revealed the work on Thursday. Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg announced it on X. Apple, for its part, now has a new CEO, John Ternus, though the details available do not spell out his role in this project.
"Open-weight" means Meta has released the trained model's parameters so others can download and run them. That is not the same as open-source, which would also cover the code and training data. Running such a model on a Mac Studio means it works on hardware a user owns rather than on a remote server.
The pairing may be the bigger story than the engineering. CNBC reported that the two rivals had not struck a public partnership since 2017, so a joint announcement stands out on its own.
What is missing is the practical detail. The available material includes no speed figures, memory requirements, or pricing, and it does not say whether other Macs are supported. Until those numbers appear, "runs on" could mean anything from a polished everyday tool to a demo for enthusiasts with the most expensive configuration. The first independent benchmarks will show which one this is.
