Apple Intelligence is expanding into the Home app with three new capabilities tied to connected cameras: automatic summaries of recorded activity, semantic search that finds clips by their content, and a way to surface relevant footage without manual scrubbing. The features are part of Apple's broader push to integrate its AI layer across first-party apps. Apple has not specified which camera models are supported or when the full rollout will complete.
The practical case is real: home security cameras produce more footage than anyone reviews until something goes wrong. Being able to ask "was anyone at the back door yesterday?" and get an actual answer closes the gap between owning a camera and getting value from one. Amazon's Ring and Google's Nest have been building AI-assisted summaries and smart alerts for years, so this move puts Apple in the same conversation rather than ahead of it.
What Apple has not yet clarified is where the processing happens — on-device, in iCloud, or some mix of both — which matters considerably when the footage involves the inside of your home.
