Anthropic has been sued in California over its top‑tier Claude subscriptions. The complaint, filed by Washington, D.C. resident Karl Kahn, says the $100 “Max 5x” and $200 “Max 20x” plans promise far more usage than users actually receive. Kahn is asking the court to force Anthropic to either honor the advertised limits or refund customers.
If the suit succeeds, developers may need to renegotiate budgets that assumed a certain amount of AI compute per dollar. It also puts pressure on other AI firms that sell tiered usage plans without clear caps. The case could become a reference point for how transparent AI pricing must be.
Anthropic has not commented publicly, but the company’s recent price hikes suggest it is testing the limits of how much users will accept.
