Anthropic is facing a lawsuit that says its most expensive Claude subscriptions are more marketing than reality.
A Washington, D.C. customer named Karl Kahn filed the complaint in California court this week. The suit targets two top-tier plans: "Max 5x" at $100 a month and "Max 20x" at $200 a month. Kahn alleges that both plans deliver substantially less usage than Anthropic advertises, and is asking a court to hold the company accountable.
Premium AI subscriptions have always had fuzzy math at their core — "5x usage" compared to what, exactly, is rarely spelled out. If the case proceeds, it could pressure AI companies to define usage limits in concrete terms rather than relative multipliers that sound good in a pricing table.
Anthropologic has not responded publicly to the complaint. It won't be the last time someone checks whether a $200-a-month AI plan delivers $200 a month of value.
