Once it reaches your phone, you turn on Automatic backups in the Quick Share for Windows app and choose what gets copied and where it lands. The phone and PC must be close together and signed into the same Google Account. Transfers then run in the background. The release notes give no schedule, and features like this tend to arrive in waves.

The timing is not accidental, or at least it is convenient. Earlier this year, more of the data in Android backups began counting toward the Google Account storage cap unless users exclude specific types. For anyone near that limit, a PC's spare disk space is a cheaper place to put photos than a bigger plan. Quick Share could already move files by hand, so the real change is removing the step where you have to remember.

The limits are worth keeping in mind. A copy on a PC in the same room as your phone is a second copy, not an off-site one. A failed drive or a stolen laptop takes the backup with it. Because transfers only happen when the two devices are near each other, the backup is also only as current as your last visit to your desk.

The bigger open question is coverage. Early hints suggested Samsung phones and PCs would be excluded, and the release notes do not say either way. A backup tool that skips one of Android's largest makers would be a narrower offer than it sounds.","["android","quick-share","google","backups"]","2026-11-05T14:30:00.000Z","2026-11-08T01:40:20.861Z","2026-11-08T01:40:23.349Z","published",null,[],"consumer-tech",[26,27,28,29],"android","quick-share","google","backups",[31
Lifehacker","https://lifehacker.com/tech/back-up-photos-from-android-to-pc?utm_medium=RSS",0
37,42,47,52,57,61,66,71,76,81,86,91,96,101
"AI","ai",7110,"2026-11-08T14:34:09.000Z
"Security","security",1099,"2026-11-08T15:24:01.000Z
"Deals","deals",620,"2026-11-08T08:00:00.000Z
"Policy","policy",604,"2026-11-07T15:48:26.000Z
"Consumer Tech",336,"2026-11-08T21:00:00.000Z
"Hardware","hardware",316,"2026-11-08T14:36:39.000Z
"Science","science",222,"2026-11-07T16:19:17.000Z
"Software","software",154,"2026-11-08T15:42:52.000Z
"Startups","startups",150,"2026-11-06T16:50:01.000Z
"Dev Tools","dev-tools",125,"2026-11-06T22:15:59.000Z
"General","general",111,"2026-11-08T21:27:29.000Z
"Gaming","gaming",94,"2026-11-08T20:52:05.000Z
"Reviews","reviews",38,"2026-10-20T12:00:00.000Z
"How-To","how-to",8,"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z"]
