Two of AI's most prominent CEOs are taking their pitch to the UN this week.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will brief the UN Security Council on Wednesday during a session focused on the future of AI, Bloomberg reported Tuesday. Yoshua Bengio, the AI researcher, is also on the list of briefers. Amodei won't be in the chamber, though: he's set to join remotely rather than appear in person, according to Bloomberg.
It's a notable venue upgrade for an industry that usually talks about safety in blog posts and op-eds. Getting two rival CEOs onto the same UN agenda signals that AI governance has moved from a Washington and Brussels conversation to a full Security Council matter, even though the format keeps Amodei a video call away from the room he's addressing.
Whether a single afternoon of testimony changes how the Council treats a technology no government has fully figured out how to regulate is a separate question entirely.
