The discount applies to the higher-spec MacBook Air 13-inch with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, which normally lists for $1,799. Amazon dropped it to $1,649 as of September 25, more than a week before Prime Day officially starts on October 6. The laptop runs on Apple's M5 chip and includes Touch ID, Apple Intelligence features, Wi-Fi 7 support, and a Liquid Retina display. It's part of a broader wave of early Apple markdowns retailers are rolling out, including cuts on AirPods Pro 3 and iPad Pro.
Do the math and $150 off $1,799 works out to roughly 8 percent. That's a real discount, but it's a smaller percentage cut than the same flat markdown would deliver on a cheaper configuration, because $150 matters less as the sticker price climbs. Retailers frontloading discounts before Prime Day also signals they'd rather move inventory now than compete with everyone else's sales in the same 48-hour window.
So it's a genuine deal, just not the once-a-year steal the 'early Prime Day' label implies.
