Amazon shaved up to 42 percent off its Fire TV Soundbar lineup ahead of October Prime Day, and the discount math actually holds up this time.
The cuts touch all six Fire TV Soundbar configurations Amazon sells, from a $79.99 two-channel bar (down from $119.99) to a $389.99 5.1 system with a wireless subwoofer and rear speakers (down from $489.99). The biggest percentage discount belongs to the mid-tier Fire TV Soundbar Plus, which drops from $249.99 to $144.99, a $105 reduction that works out to 42 percent off. That model's extra cost over the base bar buys a dedicated center channel, a built-in subwoofer, and Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support, though without up-firing drivers the Atmos effect stays mostly horizontal. Every soundbar in the lineup is audio-only and still needs a separate Fire TV streaming stick to handle the actual streaming.
Soundbars are one of the more reliable Prime Day categories because retailers usually have real margin to cut, not just a relabeled list price. At $144.99, the Soundbar Plus is priced close to entry-level bars from Vizio and Roku, but with Atmos and a built-in sub those rivals often charge extra for.
One caveat: the 42 percent figure applies to exactly one box in a six-item lineup. The step-up bundles with a wireless subwoofer or rear speakers still cost $95 to $150 more, and their discounts run closer to 20 to 36 percent.
