Amazon dropped the price of the 16-inch MacBook Pro configured with an M5 Max chip, 32-core GPU, 36GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD from $4,399 to $3,499. A second configuration, with 48GB of RAM and the same 2TB SSD, fell from $4,999 to $4,499. Both cuts land in the same week as several other MacBook Pro markdowns on Amazon, and they rank among the deepest discounts spotted on the 2026 MacBook Pro lineup since Apple raised prices this past summer.
Apple itself almost never discounts new hardware directly, so price competition happens one rung down, at retailers like Amazon working through inventory and margin. A $900 cut on a $4,399 machine is roughly 20 percent off, the kind of gap that starts to matter for buyers who held off after the summer price hikes made the high-end configs harder to justify.
Whether this reflects softer demand for the priciest configs or just routine channel discounting, the price hikes clearly left room for retailers to undercut Apple's list price by real money.
