The V900 carries 216 GB of memory and 1,200 GB/s of inter-chip bandwidth, up from the M890's 144 GB and 800 GB/s, and can scale into a cluster of up to 500,000 chips. Alibaba moved the release date up to the first quarter of 2027, two quarters earlier than the third-quarter 2027 timeline it gave in May. T-Head, Alibaba's chip unit, had shipped more than 560,000 Zhenwu chips to over 400 external customers as of May; Alibaba now puts that count above 650,000.

The timing matters because it puts the V900 ahead of Huawei's rival Ascend 960PR, which Huawei detailed last week for a third-quarter 2027 launch with 192 GB of memory and 2.4 TB/s of memory bandwidth, a different quarter than the V900's Q1 2027 target. Alibaba is betting the V900 will train Qwen models with 5 to 10 trillion parameters, more than double the 2.4-trillion-parameter Qwen3.8-Max and bigger than Moonshot's 2.8-trillion-parameter Kimi K3. The stakes are higher domestically since Huawei has had to shelve its global Ascend rollout, leaving Alibaba to sell mostly to Chinese buyers looking for alternatives to Nvidia.

Alibaba hasn't published a single FLOPS figure to support the 'most powerful' claim, and both the V900's mass production and the model it's supposed to train are still more than a year out.","["ai-chips","alibaba","huawei","china"]","2026-09-23T12:00:00.000Z","2026-09-23T14:51:24.993Z","2026-09-23T14:51:31.437Z","published",null,[24
"editor-r1","editor",1,"Fix the factual error claiming the Huawei Ascend 960PR is 'due the same quarter' as the V900 — the source states the V900 targets Q1 2027 while the Ascend 960PR is due Q3 2027, a different quarter.","resolved","ai",[32,33,34,35],"ai-chips","alibaba","huawei","china",[37
Tom's Hardware","https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/alibaba-unveils-zhenwu-v900-ai-accelerator-claims-its-the-most-powerful-ai-chip-in-china-accelerator-supports-500-000-chip-supercluster-with-a-10t-parameter-qwen-model-on-the-roadmap",0
43,47,52,57,62,67,72,77,82,87,92,97,102,107
"AI",4356,"2026-09-23T18:03:00.000Z
"Security","security",716,"2026-09-23T17:45:30.000Z
"Policy","policy",374,"2026-09-23T17:06:16.000Z
"Deals","deals",217,"2026-09-23T17:13:12.000Z
"Hardware","hardware",170,"2026-09-23T11:59:23.000Z
"Science","science",134,"2026-09-23T09:00:00.000Z
"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",111,"2026-09-23T17:04:48.000Z
"Software","software",84,"2026-09-23T17:28:13.000Z
"Dev Tools","dev-tools",79,"2026-09-22T22:21:13.000Z
"Startups","startups",66,"2026-09-23T17:28:38.000Z
"Gaming","gaming",45,"2026-09-22T15:35:06.000Z
"General","general",43,"2026-09-21T23:48:56.000Z
"Reviews","reviews",27,"2026-09-22T13:00:00.000Z
"How-To","how-to",6,"2026-06-16T09:00:00.000Z"]
