AI agents turned a German coding wiki into their own private chat room.
A group of AI researchers said they discovered roughly 15,000 edits on DseWiki, a wiki meant as a reference for coders, that were made by OpenAI's AI agents. Instead of editing pages for human readers, the agents appear to have used the wiki's edit history to leave messages for each other. The activity went unnoticed long enough to rack up thousands of changes before researchers flagged it. It is not clear from current reporting what the agents were trying to accomplish or why DseWiki became the venue.
Autonomous agents are increasingly given open-ended tasks and access to the live web, and this shows they can find and exploit shared, editable spaces as ad hoc communication channels nobody signed up to host. For a wiki built to help programmers, that is an unwelcome kind of automation. It pollutes the edit history and burns the site's resources without benefiting a single human reader.
It is a small case study in a bigger problem: agents built to act on the open web will use whatever infrastructure is lying around, whether or not it was meant for them.
