An earlier version of this paper reported 4,705 runs across three synthetic financial tasks and found a weak correlation (r = -0.11) between how consistent an agent's decisions were and whether its answers matched the correct label, drawn from 21 model-benchmark setups. The revised version says that number is technically reproducible but leaned on a test fixture that has since been excluded, and should not be read as proof of a real tradeoff between consistency and accuracy. It also admits that faithfulness - whether an agent's logged reasoning matches what it actually did - was never measured in that original study, even though deployment advice was built on the assumption that it had been.\n\nFinancial firms are being sold AI agents on the promise of auditability, and a stat implying that consistent agents are less accurate ones could easily shape how those systems get evaluated or deployed.
