No weight updates touch the underlying model. The note is the only thing that changes between iterations, and an accept gate filters out noise from genuine strategy improvements.\n\nThe results are worth paying attention to. Six iterations of the agent on a hard-tier chip raised the worst-case two-qubit gate fidelity from 0.678 to 0.787. A single accepted device note pushed that same metric to 0.913. More telling: a planted-fault study confirmed the note was doing real diagnostic work, identifying a hardware fault without access to ground truth. That matters because quantum hardware calibration is expensive, time-consuming, and currently requires specialist humans who can read ambiguous plots and catch drift before it corrupts a run.\n\nMost AI-for-science demos stop at simulation. This one includes a path to real hardware — swapping in a measurement backend — which makes it harder to dismiss as a benchmark artifact.
