Washington tightened export enforcement at the end of last year, and in March a Supermicro co-founder was charged in connection with an alleged $2.5 billion scheme to route Nvidia AI servers to Chinese buyers; Taiwan and Malaysia then opened their own smuggling investigations, cutting off the re-export routes traders had relied on. Beijing closed the legal channel from its own side: after the Trump administration approved H200 exports to China, Chinese customs blocked the chips at the border, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick later confirmed Nvidia had not completed a single H200 sale to a Chinese company. Stripped of both options, buyers turned to whatever gray-market hardware remained.\n\nThe squeeze extends beyond aging A100 inventory. The RTX 6000 Pro workstation card climbed from roughly $5,580 to as much as $14,500 this year, and the DGX B300, which retails in the U.S. for nearly $400,000, now trades above $1.1 million on the black market. GPU rental rates inside China now match or exceed U.S. prices, erasing the discount that abundant smuggled supply once provided.\n\nHuawei's Ascend 950PR, launched in March, is the designated domestic alternative, but output is limited and its native software stack trails Nvidia's CUDA substantially, so until Huawei scales, whoever still holds legacy Nvidia inventory holds a commodity with no near-term price ceiling.","[\"nvidia\",\"ai hardware\",\"export controls\",\"china\"]","2026-06-24T10:21:28.000Z","2026-06-25T01:43:59.422Z","2026-06-25T01:44:02.102Z","published",null,[],"hardware",[26,27,28,29],"nvidia","ai hardware","export controls","china",[31],{"name":32,"url":33},"Tom's Hardware","https:\u002F\u002Fwww.tomshardware.com\u002Fpc-components\u002Fgpu-drivers\u002Ffive-year-old-nvidia-a100-servers-triple-in-price-in-china",0,{"sections":36},[37,42,47,52,57,62,65,70,75,80,85,90,95,100],{"name":38,"slug":39,"count":40,"latest_published_at":41},"AI","ai",544,"2026-06-24T22:35:15.000Z",{"name":43,"slug":44,"count":45,"latest_published_at":46},"Deals","deals",161,"2026-06-24T13:00:00.000Z",{"name":48,"slug":49,"count":50,"latest_published_at":51},"Security","security",149,"2026-06-24T21:03:34.000Z",{"name":53,"slug":54,"count":55,"latest_published_at":56},"Policy","policy",109,"2026-06-24T22:30:36.000Z",{"name":58,"slug":59,"count":60,"latest_published_at":61},"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",87,"2026-06-24T14:22:56.000Z",{"name":63,"slug":24,"count":60,"latest_published_at":64},"Hardware","2026-06-24T22:28:18.000Z",{"name":66,"slug":67,"count":68,"latest_published_at":69},"Software","software",65,"2026-06-24T21:57:30.000Z",{"name":71,"slug":72,"count":73,"latest_published_at":74},"Dev Tools","dev-tools",53,"2026-06-23T18:13:40.000Z",{"name":76,"slug":77,"count":78,"latest_published_at":79},"Science","science",40,"2026-06-24T21:41:03.000Z",{"name":81,"slug":82,"count":83,"latest_published_at":84},"Gaming","gaming",37,"2026-06-24T22:47:03.000Z",{"name":86,"slug":87,"count":88,"latest_published_at":89},"Startups","startups",34,"2026-06-24T20:51:38.000Z",{"name":91,"slug":92,"count":93,"latest_published_at":94},"General","general",27,"2026-06-24T08:50:14.000Z",{"name":96,"slug":97,"count":98,"latest_published_at":99},"Reviews","reviews",20,"2026-06-24T12:00:01.000Z",{"name":101,"slug":102,"count":103,"latest_published_at":104},"How-To","how-to",6,"2026-06-16T09:00:00.000Z"]
