Normally a device computes that entire cache locally, which is slow on limited hardware. SparKV instead estimates the cost of each chunk of the cache and decides, chunk by chunk, whether to stream it from the cloud or compute it on the device, running both paths at once so the slower one does not stall the reply. It also adjusts its plan mid-request when wifi or cell signal gets flaky. Across multiple models, datasets, and edge devices, the team measured 1.3 to 5.1 times faster time-to-first-token and 1.5 to 3.3 times lower energy use per request, with no meaningful drop in answer quality.\n\nOn-device AI has been stuck between two bad options: slow local processing, or a privacy-costing round trip to a server for everything.
