The benchmark spans 41 task families across eight areas — power flow, protection, stability, microgrids, reliability, power quality, and forecasting — each grounded in a citable engineering standard. A deterministic evaluator recomputes the relevant engineering quantities, checks operational constraints, and returns a feasibility flag, a normalized score, and a list of explicit violations. To reduce data contamination, held-out test cases are generated on demand from private seeds, so the construction method is public but the actual instances are not.

This matters because most AI work in power engineering has stayed in the retrieval-and-question-answering lane, where a convincing prose answer can hide a wrong answer. Executable evaluation closes that gap: an agent that produces a physically infeasible solution fails, regardless of how well it explains itself. The benchmark also doubled as a quality-control tool during development — unanimous agent failures on a task flagged a latent bug in one of the evaluators that self-consistency checks had missed.

A reference run with three command-line agents showed the strongest models approaching the ceiling of the compact tier, while a smaller open model lagged behind; public and held-out scores tracked each other closely, a decent sign the benchmark is not leaking. The evaluators are deliberately lightweight surrogates now, but the task contract is designed so they can be swapped for full simulator-backed checks later — which is either a thoughtful upgrade path or an admission that the current checks are not the hard part.","["ai","benchmarks","energy","power-systems"]","2026-07-03T04:00:00.000Z","2026-07-03T09:02:51.355Z","2026-07-03T09:02:54.239Z","published",null,[],"ai",[24,26,27,28],"benchmarks","energy","power-systems",[30
arXiv cs.AI","https://arxiv.org/abs/2606.20950",0
36,40,45,50,55,60,65,70,75,80,85,89,94,99
"AI",2590,"2026-07-16T04:00:00.000Z
"Security","security",294,"2026-07-15T19:59:48.000Z
"Deals","deals",179,"2026-06-29T20:02:07.000Z
"Policy","policy",158,"2026-07-16T00:02:48.000Z
"Hardware","hardware",122,"2026-07-14T19:46:26.000Z
"Consumer Tech","consumer-tech",93,"2026-07-13T13:20:48.000Z
"Software","software",70,"2026-07-13T19:52:25.000Z
"Science","science",66,"2026-07-10T10:29:37.000Z
"Dev Tools","dev-tools",59,"2026-07-07T04:00:00.000Z
"Gaming","gaming",41,"2026-07-09T04:00:00.000Z
"Startups","startups","2026-06-29T20:55:50.000Z
"General","general",29,"2026-07-10T22:28:58.000Z
"Reviews","reviews",20,"2026-06-24T12:00:01.000Z
"How-To","how-to",6,"2026-06-16T09:00:00.000Z"]
